The November Manifesto

Hi

There are many different reasons why we may want to get away from the noise of our daily lives and there are countless ways to help you do so. This blog is my way of doing that. I live in Granada in the south of Spain, write songs, teach English and now write this blog.

My name is Jason and although I only started this blog on 3 October 2014, it has already become an essential daily ritual to post and connect with readers and other bloggers. I have enjoyed writing it, getting positive feedback from people and generally interacting with lots of interesting people online. I’ve also enrolled on an online blogging course as you can always learn something new, can’t you?

So with this in mind, I’m committing to writing a new post every day for the next 30 days in line with the WordPress Blogging 101 series.

After living in London for 17 years, Mrs AwayFromTheNoise and I moved to Granada in the south of Spain in January 2014. It’s been a goal of ours to live somewhere warm, beautiful and interesting for a long time, so it’s been lovely having made that happen. In addition to writing this blog, I travel a lot around the south of Spain, teach English locally and write songs on my slightly battered acoustic guitar and laptop. But perhaps the question here is ‘why should you read this blog’?

On this blog, I plan to just enjoy writing about pretty much whatever inspires me, usually based on things I read, see or hear while out and about, which I’ve just realized is pretty much the same process I have for songwriting. Subjects include music, travel, minimalism, food, coffee, life as a foreigner in the south of Spain and generally escaping to a place of of tranquility because it’s a beautiful place to be – all of which I hope give people food for thought. So If you like the sound of that and you’re looking for a little inspiration or insight into life in general, then this could be the blog for you…

I have four primary objectives for this blog by 30 November 2014 :

– publish a post every day

– interact online with lots of new people

– have a total of 250 subscribers to the mailing list

– enjoy the process…

I hope this blog helps you to get you away from the noise.

Thanks for popping by…

Jason

  1. Hey J, ’twas lovely to read the introduction to your new blog. I have to say, Granada and being away from the Noise sounds truly lovely.
Rhiannon and I discussed and contemplated having a year away in April thus year. We looked at basing ourselves in Malaysia I would work remotely from there and age would find done work in Nursing. The plan was to spend our weekends and school holidays discovering the Far East. Unfortunately we hit a few roadblocks that we weren’t able to overcome quickly enough. Nursing work was not readily available and school fees were too expensive. India, my eldest is due to take her options at the end of this academic year so we have definitely missed the boat on this adventure (for now anyway!). On the upside we decided to head other way during the summer and spent 23 days in Brazil. We had an amazing time and one the kids will definitely remember forever.
I’m so glad you’ve followed your dream and wish you both all the very best in the beautiful Granada.
How far away are the ski slopes?
My youngest has just asked for a hot chocolate before bed so I better get moving!

    1. Hi Al. Glad you like the blog. Though like anywhere, not perfect, Granada is indeed lovely. I didn’t know you and Rhiannon had been considering time abroad too. Malaysia sounds exciting, though from what I saw on Facebook, you all had a fabulous time in Brazil. Your kids seem to be doing really well. Can’t believe they’ve grown up so much! The ski slopes are about 45mins away, as is the beach, so one of the things you can do here is to ski in the morning and swim in the afternoon, though I have yet to do it. Am listening to This Mortal Coil – some things don’t change – perfect for an dark, autumn evening in London or Granada. Take care. Jx

  2. Getting way from busy London moving to Granada sounds fantastic! I lived in Sevilla for 3 months many years ago and I still remember our visit to Granada as one of my favourite spots in south of Spain. Looking forward to read more about your way of living in Spain:)
